Slovenians is a Belgian punk rock band from Brussels, active since 2012. Known for their blistering delivery and firecracker front man, Slovenians melds punk influences such as The Dead Kennedy’s, The New Bomb Turks and Minor Threat with feisty doses of rock ’n roll, blues and garage rock.

A first EP « Frankie Goes To Ljubljana » was released in December 2014. The standout tracks “I’m Not Batman” and “Babysitter” became staples of the best underground rock ’n roll DJ’s in Brussels and aired on alternative Belgian radio stations.

In December 2016 Slovenians returned to Studio Six to record « Al Dente » a 13 track album that came out in June 2017 on CD as well as on all major digital platforms.

Tragically, in July 2017, just one month after the release of « Al Dente », their lead guitarist Sinkesh Krištofik was fatally injured in an accident that put the future of the band heavily in doubt.

After a few months of mourning the remaining members gathered and eventually agreed that Sinkesh would definitely want them to carry on. So with the support of their friends and his family’s blessing Slovenians started rehearsing again.

A new lead guitarist and long time friend of the singer joined the band and soon they were hitting the stage again, faster, louder and stronger than ever!

(...) The thirteen-track album continues with Slave and this one manages to blend The Cramps with The Exploited (and that is some blend) whilst I’m Not Batman (an underground favourite) manages to display a booming bass, clever guitar licks and an energetic, powerful punk rocker.
Nadiais a sub-two-minute hell raiser and Manson is similar in length but more powerful and faster punk rock with a manic lead vocal performance. The band showcase a different side with the slower, Black Sabbath like Jebus but soon return to pounding drums, dirty bass guitars and scorching riffs supporting those Jello like vocals on the excellent Not Afraid.
The penultimate song, Subliminal is a melodic rock ‘n’ roller with some raw edges and the closer, The Kids is 102 seconds of intense punk rock pace and power…PHEW!!!

Kada videh naziv bend pomislih da ekipa solazi iz Slovenije, kad ono prečka :) Iz Belgije su i ovo im je prvo dugosvirajuće izdanje. Pre njega su imali EP “Frankie goes to Ljubljana”... Zato ih i povezah sa Slovenijom.
Bend postoji od 2012. godine. Ono što sviraju može se opisati kao mešavina DEAD KENNEDYS i THE NEW BOMB TURKS sa malom dozom Iggy Popa i THE STOOGES. Ukratko, punk sa velikim uticajem rock’n’roll zvukova. Ovaj naziv izdanja “Al Dente” me je podsetio na Federera i njegovu reklamu za rezance :D Inače, ovu recenziju bih napisala još sinoć, nego me je omeo poraz našeg Nola u finalu, pa nisam bila nizašta... Da napomenem i to da su mi na bend skrenuli pažnju ljudi koji rade za “pogorecords” iz Francuske. Pisali mi i poslali link, pa im na tome veliko HVALA što su me se setili!!! Na albumu se nalazi trinaest pesama. Nema ovde toliko melodike da bih to tome rangirala dopadljivost pesama, ali opet taj segmenat ima mnogo uticaja :D “Dirty mind”, “Tartine”, “Slave”, “Nadia”, “Manson”, “Not afraid” i “The kids” su mi bile najdopadljivije. Volim ja KENNEDYS-e i to, ali brate dok se ne slože glasovi nema žurke... Hehehehehe... Šalim se malo. Ovo je jako dobro, kao što rekoh više je na neku rock’n’roll foru, ali je dopadljivo. Da napomenem da su momci ovo izdanje izbacili 2017. godine (ne sećam se kojeg meseca), ali su ih ove godine zvanični izdavači uzeli pod svoje :) Inače, dalji rad benda bio je jedno vreme nakon izlaska albuma pod znakom pitanja zbog teške povrede njihovog gitariste, ali se ekipa konsolidovala i nastavljaju dalje.
Ako ih Herkul Poaro nije otkrio, otkriše ih “pogorecords”. Nije bitno ko je, važno je da su otkriveni i sada je na njima da se pokazuju i dokazuju dalje. SAMO NAPRED!!!

The story behind Belgian punkrock band Slovenians is full of turbulence, intense and heartbreaking tragedy. This is their record which I listened and reviewed for this zine.
The band is coming from Brussels, Belgium and they were formed in 2012. They are known for their high energetic shows delivering high energy punkrock in your faces and ears. In 2017. the guys lost their friend and lead guitarist in a tragic accident.
The rest of the guys agreed to carry on in the name of their fallen brother and I am glad that it is so. This record contains 13 songs. All of the song are brutal, fast paced, energetic punkrock experience. If I must compare this band to some other it would be like the power of Black Flag, the daring of Dead Kennedys and the energy of Zeke packed into one highly addictive package. I can only imagine how great this songs sound live. The lyrics are in English language, as I understand them personal but with a twist of irony and humour thrown in for good measure. I recommend this record because it is awesome.
