ДЖРС III

On their third full-length album JARS turn away from straight-forward politicised punk rock of "Подлог" (Forgery) EP to more complicated sound and personal lyrics, keeping their recognisable anger and loudness. Since the latest release and a month-long tour from Russia to Portugal and back, the band's line-up changed by two-thirds. With their new drummer Mikhail Rackaev and bassist Pavel Orlov JARS sound melodic and groovy, sometimes even blending funk influences, while guitar and vocals by Anton Obrazeena stay ugly, abrasive and sharp, reminding of Shellac, Drive Like Jehu and Årabrot. The first half of new record rushes forward with hardcore punk and metal-infused riffs; the band literally builds walls of noise like Swans or My Bloody Valentine do. After the "Ultramarathon" things get darker and slower, ending with a 10-minute epic "Moscow does not believe in tears", which deals with morbid themes like domestic violence and stalking. All in all, this album is a highlight in Jars discography, and they know it, giving the release just a twisted russian version of a band's name with a number – ДЖРС III.
Band bio
Jars is a Moscow-based trio, whose music is not for the faint of heart: the band's style of noise-rock is ferocious, relentless and vicious. The sound they produce takes you back to the 1990s and makes you think you're dealing with the signees of Amphetamine Reptile, possibly the most influential record label for the genre. Although, stylistically Jars reminds of their implacable Western brethren, their catchy lyrics are written in Russian and tell stories about a life of a "small man", who's aspiring his dreams despite the amount of consumed substanses and daily routine.
Formed in 2011, Jars have released 3 albums and 2 EPs, played in the cities from Lisbon on the west to Ulaanbaatar and Vladivostok on the east and shared stage with such acts as Melt Banana, Iceage, The Garden, '68, The Wytches, Raketkanon and many more. The band's frontman, Anton, was also one of the organizers of Moscow's Troyka fest, a short documentary about which was published on pitchfork.com

REVIEWS:
JARS have popped more than once on appreciation threads regarding non-American noise rock on the Internet (along with other Russian bands like uSSSy), so I kinda knew they will be good even before listening to it for the first time. For the uninitiated, JARS is a Moscow-based trio, whose music is not for the faint of heart: the band’s style of noise-rock is ferocious, relentless and vicious. That said, this band is absolutely crushing with their latest ДЖРС III album.
Perfectly executed nine tracks without losing the chaotic loose feeling of punk. Tight riffs all around the record, lots of dramatic changes and overall powerful songwriting. JARS blend a lot of details to create their own sound, and the result is a truly crushing record front to back. III offer more complicated sound and personal lyrics, keeping their recognisable anger and loudness. The edge of the sound takes you back to the 1990s, a harsh and gritty, hypnotic form of noise punk not unlike Amphetamine Reptile signers of the time.
The first half of the record rushes forward with a torrent of hardcore punk and metal-infused riffs, blended with walls of noise a la Swans or MBV. There is also a killer sax (?) solo in “Mechanism”—a real free jazz moment! Seventh track “Мне нужны враги” (I need enemies) offers killer riffing in the vein of the Melvins/Bleach-era Nirvana, combined with moody melodic vocals for even more direct impact! This one is truly a highlight of the album for me.
Half-way through the record things get darker and slower, ending with a 10-minute epic “Moscow does not believe in tears”, which deals with morbid themes like domestic violence and stalking. I really enjoy that JARS choose to have their lyrics in their native language, Russian really gives the songs a distinct sound. When it comes to the content of those lyrics, JARS say they are “about the life of a ‘small man’, who’s aspiring his dreams despite the amount of consumed substances and daily routine”.
Formed in 2011, the band has released three albums and two EPs along the way, toured plenty and played in cities from Lisbon on the West to Ulaanbaatar and Vladivostok on the East, sharing the stage with bands like Melt Banana, Iceage, The Garden, ’68, The Wytches, Raketkanon and so on. Since their latest release followed by a month-long tour from Russia to Portugal and back, the band’s line-up changed by two-thirds. Anton Obrazeena (guitar & vocals) is now joined by new drummer Mikhail Rackaev and Pavel Orlov on bass, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t as good as ever.
Overall, ДЖРС III is an amazing record, listening to their previous stuff I can say they achieved to write and record some next level shit! I would really like to catch this band live someday!

(...) After two full-length albums and two EPs, Jars has a great, noisy sound, sort of Amphetamine Reptile, with jangly guitars. The band covers a lot of ground on this new record, going from unexpected, obnoxious walls of sound and aggression to in-the-pocket grooves and moody riffs. There’s even a part that sounds like it’s coming from the sax of John Zorn. (...)

"If two previous albums by JARS sounded like a romance between noise and garage-rock, this one – is their marriage. It’s different comparing with two previous albums – different degree of intensity and a certain radicalism presented in the chaotic-half of the record".

(...) Az idén a JARS - ДЖРС III az egyik, hanem a legjobb noise - rock - metal - postHc "izé" lemez, amit hallottam. Nem okozott csalódást, sőt a tagcserék ellenére a fegyelmem középpontjában fog maradni! Nem egyszerű anyag, de nagyon jó.(...)

I actually covered Jars—a Russian trio led by guitarist/vocalist Anton Obrazeena—in another roundup earlier this year, and now they're back with a new rhythm section for full-length #3. And, once more, expect some seriously powerful and well-produced noise rock excellence. This band is so damn good and truly deserves wider appreciation. They just nail so many of the qualities that I look for when it comes to this particular niche: great songwriting pinned down by a hard-hitting rhythm section with a rock-solid bass presence, jagged guitar runs with apt fits of dissonance, etc. This album offers increased diversity, though, and the vocals feel a little more vicious this time out as well. From the minute-long mangled hardcore Converge-isms of "Mr. Visionary" to the pounding 10-minute behemoth "Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears," ДЖРС III is most definitely "noise rock plus"!

(...) Jars – Always a little concerning when you don’t know what they’re singing or shouting about but hey let’s start off from a position of trust and hope there is nothing but good in what they’re shouting about. DO like the bounce, they do sound like a band who should be on a label called Pogo. “On their third full-length album Jars turn away from straight-forward politicised punk rock of “Подлог” (Forgery) EP to more complicated sound and personal lyrics, keeping their recognisable anger and loudness. Since the latest release and a month-long tour from Russia to Portugal and back….” read on via their Bandcamp page. Apparently the Moscow-based trio “tell stories about a life of a “small man”, who’s aspiring his dreams despite the amount of consumed substances and daily routine”. Got to like that 90’s flavoured AmRep influenced sound – they cite the Amphetamine Reptile sound themselves (...)

On their third full-length JARS may have turned away from politicised punk rock of the “Подлог” EP to a more complicated sound that is coupled with personal lyrics, but they have retained their recognisable anger and loudness. Since their last release the band’s line-up has changed, with their new members, drummer Mikhail Rackaev and bassist Pavel Orlov, JARS sound melodic and groovy, sometimes even blending funk influences, whilst the guitar and vocals by Anton Obrazeena stay ugly, abrasive and sharp. The album has been given twisted version of a band’s Russian name with a number “ДЖРС III“, the album closes with the ten minute epic ‘Москва слезам не вери (Moscow Does Not Believe In Tears)‘, which deals with themes of domestic violence and stalking.

Depois da "Ultramaratona", as coisas ficaram um pouco mais sombrias e lentas, terminando com um épico de 10 minutos "Москва слезам не верит _ Moscow does not believe in tears", que trata de temas mórbidos como a violência doméstica e perseguição.

Egal: „ДЖРС
