CHRONIQUES:

Revoilà les Abdomen pour leur troisième production. Fureur, rage indus, metal-punk tribal, sont autant de qualificatifs potentiels. La section rythmique a évolué depuis les précédents enregistrements, la double grosse caisse est très présente et donne encore plus d'impact à l'ensemble. Linéaire ou saccadé le rythme supporte un chant mi-chanté mi-crié et des riffs puissants et redondants. L'enregistrement a été effectué par Fred Norguet (Seven Hate, Burning Heads, N.D.E....) et le son de l'album est très réussi. (No/Pogo/Mélodie)

Voilà l'arlésienne. On y croyait plus tant il était attendu. Le voilà enfin. Bien bel objet au passage. Abdomens a toujours su créer la surprise dans la constance. je m'explique. A l'époque de « Sur fond de biotope », le groupe officiait alors un punk/hardcore mégaphonée pour se diriger vers des sonorités plus métalliques avec « Rotten to the core ». « Stupid ass » enfonce le clou. Les rythmiques sont lancinantes et hypnotiques. Les mélodies en filigrane et la voix évanescente. Tout se fond, se confond sans perdre en qualité. Un très bon album.

Ich habe ja so meine Theorie, warum man hierzulande so wenig von französischen Bands Notiz nimmt: unsere einstigen Erbfeinde haben nämlich nicht nur bei Wein und Käse ausgesprochen guten Geschmack und scheren sich einen Dreck um jeden US-amerikanischen Trend und picken sich stattdessen die Rosinen raus.
ABDOMENS sind so eine Rosine: Vor sechs Jahren in Poitiers gegründet, haben sie einen Narren gefressen an frühen KILLING JOKE und PRONG, aber auch an BIG BLACK und NEUROSIS, und mit diesen Zutaten haben sie ein recht eigenständiges Süppchen gebraut.
Das basiert zum einen auf mächtigen, monotonen Rhythmen, zum anderen auf flirrend-wuchtigen Gitarrenwänden, die gelegentlich durch zurückhaltenden Keyboard-Einsatz gepusht werden. Darüber liegt der mal hysterische, mal beschwörende Megaphongesang, und was soll ich sagen, ich bin rundum begeistert.
Eine exzellente Scheibe abseits von offensichtlichem Trendgekasper und Blöd-Crossover.
